Visit The Raspberry Place
Just updating you on my latest adventures in the Raspberry Patch . This season the hot and humid weather has caused an early ripening of the precious commodity. Wouldn't you just know that I didn't anticipate two weeks earlier than usual so am working this week , and will be picking daily weather permitting starting July 23.
For those of you who have not visited The Raspberry Place, it is located in the picturesque community of Bayfield, near the shores of the Northumberland Strait just off of Route 955 between the Confederation Bridge exit and Cape Tormentine. If you haven't been in the downtown core ... tsk..tsk..tsk you have missed an exciting metropolis. Yes we have a Federal Building, ( locals call it the post office ..imagine that a post office , how mundane ) and a Used Book Store now that is an adventure, you can browse for hours and Sam, your host , will have just about anything your little heart desires , served up with a smile and a bit of wit.
Now back to The Raspberry Place, from the front it looks like any ordinary White Victorian story and a half house , a few curlicues, a few flowers ( well more than a few ) and a large back yard, now the adventure begins in the back yard! There is a garden full of calendula growing wild among the beans and tomatoes, Opium Poppies( they aren't related to the drug trade, just a differentiation between Oriental or perennial poppies and the annual variety ) scattered throughout the lettuce and carrots... does this sound a little disorganized ? Well it is, but it works for me, I call it block planting but that's just a cover for my totally disorganized methods of planting!
Beside this totally bizarre garden patch is a green house, afraid its gone to disuse since I can't get out to open the doors and windows to cool it down during the spring and summer. It is used more as a storage shed than a green house these days. Now this greenhouse used to stand yards ahead of and well to the outside of the Raspberry Patch....... used to ... now it's snuggled amongst the bushes which take over half of the back yard. Why on earth would you let the raspberries take over ???? Well its a wonderful way to spend a vacation, over your head in berries, conversing with the birds, the bees, the cats and the occasional neigbour. And that is where I shall leave this adventure, weather will write the next page and maybe if I can spare a bit of time I will update you on the neighborhood. Did I mention it is so laid back that you could easily imagine ( if you didn't notice the model of the cars ) that you had slipped back in time and were back in the fifties ? Well that's how I feel about it and it is home. So on that happy note I will say bye for now and if you wish to drop in to Keepsake Crafts I should be there on the afternoon of July 22. Hope to see you at The Raspberry Place or at Keepsake where you are always welcome .
